The New Day Care

Much more spacious than before

Much more spacious than before

Since joining SJMC back in 2011, I felt that the place had been struggling with space. We seemed to be cramming as much as we could in the limited space that we had. With MediPlex being built, we had some breathing space. Now SJMC had starting to expand in terms of clinical space.

Haematology and Oncology services is one of the busiest specialty at the hospital and to expand, we needed a new Day Care and eventually new clinic area and dedicated wards. As the first phase of the expansion, the new Chemotherapy Day Care was opened - although we would only be moving in in the next few weeks.

The new area was at least twice the current space, and would afford some proper facilities for the patients. It is located in the First Floor of the South Tower, one floor above the current home, right opposite the Doctor’s Lounge. In the next few years, my clinic will also move to the same floor - so less running from one tower to the other!

A few weeks back, the new CEO came to visit the place and we were invited to have a look as well. Definitely an upgrade from before but we would only know the shortcomings once the patients starting using it.

The layout was spacious and open. With more single rooms to be for privacy and procedure. Each seat and rooms had their own TV and there were more dedicated and kid-friendly space in the Paediatric section which would be separate from the adults. There will be a mini-lab as well as drug preparation areas, but most importantly, the Nurses will get their own pantry. They sure could do with one!
