Maju Junction

Reflecting on its past glory

Reflecting on its past glory

I always thought that Maju Junction was an anomaly. A striking office building smack in the middle of prime land but without a clear plan of what it was for. It had a mall on the main tower - with the prime tenant being Parkson - and a host of other shops and eatery. As far as the offices were concerned, the last time I had any dealings there, it was at the Veteran’s Office, sorting out Ba’s pension for my Mum.

I was also shocked when I attended a product launch for a friend’s clothing line back when Anita was pregnant for Irfan. That must have been 2005. A lovely hall on one of the upper floors with a beautiful mezzanine to walk across. Clearly, there was quality in there.

Imagine if it was converted into condominiums or even a hotel. With its excellent location at the junction of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, getting in and out of town from that location should be simple. Public transports were also nearby. Plenty was going for the place.

It was sad to see that the building now being emptied. All the shops had closed, and Parkson had long left the place. The front facade had been boarded up, and hopefully, there are plans to reinvigorate the area. It clearly had seen better days, although the truth is told, it had never lived up to its expectations ...
