Day Minus One
With the announcement last night, Malaysia is entering into the next phase in containing COVID-19. The writing was on the wall, and the Government has finally decided to impose travel restrictions to minimise the spread of the virus.
It may have come a little too late, but we have to start somewhere. Opinions were divided as to the degree of lockdown needed, balancing it to the impact on the economy as well as national security. The hoarders had been out clearing the supermarket shelves since the weekend, and that fever will spread today as the restrictions would start tomorrow, 18th March 2020.
Anita is still in Kota Bharu, leaving later this morning. The boys’ school had announced their closure until the end of April yesterday. The boys were euphoric at the beginning before realising that lessons would still go on via virtual classroom. I am not sure how successful that is going to be. So, I just got everything set up and leave the rest to them as I will be doing my clinic this morning.
As for me, work would be as usual, although I would expect a dip in the number of patients. The hospital is still open for business, and most of my scheduled chemotherapy patients are set to continue as planned. The streets would be empty hopefully, and traffic would be light from tomorrow. But, today would be a period of adjustment.
I have also decided to blog daily for posterity as hopefully these restrictions and lockdown would be once in a lifetime event. It would be fun to look back after a decade and see what happened. Planning to snaps plenty of photos today ...
