Virtual Prizegiving
This year, Irfan received his commendation from the comfort of our home rather than at the school hall. And the whole event was done through Zoom - which I duly streamed straight into the TV at the living room.
I guess it was happening elsewhere as well. No more fanfare of school price-giving. Just an award ceremony minus the pomp. I remember when I was in primary school, the “Hari Ucapan dan Penyampaian Hadiah” was a massive deal. We also had school plays on the same day, and the event lasted a whole morning, with parents of the recipient sitting proudly in the hall.
The speeches this time around were less formal. All done from the teacher’s office, with the whole event lasting less than an hour. Since it started at 9 am, I stayed at home and started my morning round a bit later. Irfan was told to collect his trophy next term after the summer break. So, they have another two months holiday before he starts in Year 10.
