The X-Panded Look
The traditional Fujifilm medium format - called the X-Pan - has a classic wide aspect ratio, 65:24 as one of the options. With the digital medium format, this mode is available, but this would also mean sacrificing some of the precious sensor space on the camera.
I tried it last weekend on my GFX 50R and ended up loving it. Capturing in RAW but dialling 65:24 ratio in the menu, you end up with the ability to crop on Lightroom while still maintaining the aspect ratio. What I loved about this format is the ability to be able to capture the wider picture.
The outcome was best described as cinematic ...
I used the GF45mm f2.8 lens on the outing - equivalent to 35 mm on a full-frame sensor. I reckon using a wider lens would have been even better. I will leave that for my trip to Penang next week.
