Plane in the City
Finding places to have our anniversary dinner was often tricky. The last couple of places Anita picked proved to be better than mine, so I trusted her to do the honour this time around.
She had been eyeing a few spots in town but the most obvious one was "Plane in the City". A unique dinner experience in an airplane fuselage right in the middle of town.
The ironic thing was, Anita had developed a fear of flying of late. Maybe this was part of her plan to desensitize herself ...
Plane in the City was literally what it was. An original Boeing 737 plane, refurbished and the cabin turned into a restaurant serving fine food brought in from Le Meridien. The package came in Economy, Business and First Class. The First Class package included an overnight stay at Le Meridien plus breakfast.
The venue was located along Jalan Bukit Bintang opposite the LTAT building. The plane could be seen from the road. But if you missed that, you could see a big crane right next to it where its sister attraction "Dinner in the Sky" was located.
When we arrived - apparently you have to be there 30 minutes prior when the gate was open - you would be ushered into a waiting lounge where drinks and finger foods would be served. Those were delicious to start with. We were then invited to the "tarmac" to climb into the jet engines for photos. A must!
Then came the boarding where you would be invited up individually onto your assigned seats. You have some drinks and more finger foods. Before dinner were served, you could have a walk on the aircraft wings - attached to a harness of course - and visit the cockpit for more photos. Get your Instagram on the ready!
Then came the 4 course meal which were excellent although I should've ordered the lamb ribs instead of the fish! You will be on the plane for 90 minutes for the dinner, photo ops and the unique experience.
Definitely something to be recommended although the the place could do with some improvement. The obvious one was the toilet facilities. It was located outside the lounge and it was should I say, rudimentary. They also could do by employing better phographers. Somebody with a proper flash and dSLR. The GoPro to capture our faces outside the cockpit was just wasn't good enough ....
Definitely a dinner to be remembered. I would definitely recommend it to friends celebrating their special day.
