Evening Talk
After the work day was done, I headed across to Holiday Villa, a hotel 10 minutes walk away from the hospital. Grabbed myself an ice cream and took my iPad Mini along, I ventured into the cool late afternoon wind. We had a speaker from Portugal giving a talk there on Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia and we had a few local Haematologists around to listen in.
Unfortunately, the traffic today was really bad and many of my colleagues failed to make it. It was left with the three SJMC Haematologist, plus a couple from HUKM to make up the crowd. It was a shame since the talk was a good one, delivered by a real expert in the field, being flown in all the way across the globe.
The talk lasted half an hour, followed by dinner. We had a great conversation and it was clear that the gentleman knew what he was talking about. He was in Kota Kinabalu yesterday, flew into KL this morning straight to Hospital Ampang, then to Subang after checking into his hotel room. He will be speaking at UMMC tomorrow lunch before flying home in the evening.
I had a chat with the organiser after the talk and it was very clear that they were expecting a bigger crowd. The traffic was definitely a factor and I suggested for future talks, it might be a better idea to hold it in the City Centre or KL Sentral where public transport connections are better. I applauded their thoughts of trying something new but clearly it did not work out as intended.
Personally, it was a good talk, great company and Prof Antonio Almeida is definitely somebody I would listen to again.
