The Night Walk
So, the conference and meetings were done. My flight would be early the next morning. There was no dinner commitment and the rest of the group had decided to head into town do some shopping and have some food. I decided to walk around as well and since it was bitterly cold and I was not familiar with the city, I decide to go to an area called Garosu-gil, where there were plenty of night life. There was an added bonus that there is an Apple Store there.
It took me half an hour using the underground train to get to the area and once I exited the station, the nightlife there was definitely vibrant. There were plenty of shops and restaurants lining the side walks and the walk towards theApple Store was definitely an interesting one with plenty to see.
Despite the cold, there were plenty of activities. I stopped at a couple of shops en route but decided against buying anything as it was a pain having to carry them back to the hotel in this weather. There was a shop by Karl Lagerfeld whichI though was interesting. There cafes were also really nice but on this Saturday night, they were full.
While doing my research, I can across photowalks organised by some locals familiar with the area and Gangnam advertised through Airbnb which caught my eyes. Unfortunately, the walks started early, before my conference were done. It would have been interesting to betaken around by a group of local familiar with the area ...
The outing also allowed me to put the D-Lux 7 through its low-light paces. It had 3 things going for it - the larger than average four thirds sensor size, the wide aperture at least at the wide-angle end and the built-in optical image stabiliser. That increased the strike rate when taking handheld photos. The only drawback was the small body - which was the reason I bought the camera in the first place - did not balance well in the hand. A bit more heft would have been welcomed. Luckily I got a grip on the camera providing purchase when carrying it around.
I finally arrived at the Apple Store 20 minutes later - more on that on my next entry. After a quick stay, I decided to try one of the cafe for dinner - the cold weather really made me hungry. Just sandwich before returning back on the underground to the hotel. It was just too cold, and I was not sure where else to go apart from shopping ...
