Family Anniversary Lunch
My in-laws have been married 60 years now, and as the only daughter, Anita was tasked in organising the dinner for the family. She has been planning it for the last couple of weeks - she loved planning. And since we were away in PD during the weekend, we decided to go for a Sunday lunch instead of dinner earlier in the weekend.
Come the Sunday morning, we left PD early, right after breakfast. Anita ordered some pulut kuning - a Malay traditional yellow sticky rice eaten with rendang - and cookies for the occasion. But not just any cookies. She ordered it through Instagram from a lady that did some cookies for the Permaisuri Agung before. And they were amazing. However, there was a slight hitch as nobody was able to deliver the cookies that morning. We ended up driving straight to her apartment in Mont Kiara to pick them up. Not that much of a diversion.
Just after noon, Anita was already at Busaba, a Thai restaurant in Bangsar Shopping Centre, making sure everything was organised. She had arranged for a private room. Her parents and brothers were there right on time, and we had a lovely lunch. Everybody except the eldest grandson who was at work was present. An afternoon to be remembered.
The food was equally good, and we topped up the afternoon with the pulut kuning. The tom yam soup and steamed fish were amazing.
My father-in-law has not been in the best of health for the last three years. He was in and out of the hospital, but of late, he was a lot more stable. Still, Anita had to be around to supervise her medications regularly and keeping an eye on things. Her Mum also needed regular check-up. But at least, her brother lived with her parents and could intervene in emergencies.
