It is not often that I can get a quiet run on a Sunday morning. And when it was with this lot - Ripi, Azul and Robin - I knew it was going to be a special one. Ripi had been away for a while and was now getting back into serious photography - the old master is back. Azul is the master when it comes to the route around this part of KL, so he was the guide. And Robin, the Olympus man, was getting a new segment of his YouTube channel running, a more hands-on photography guide.

So, the stage was set. And I was the one who started the earliest I was sure. I was already starting my ward round before the sun was up, getting everything sorted out before 8 am. Drove back to Bangsar and caught a Grab ride into Chow Kit, reaching there in time to join the boys for breakfast.

And then, the plotting started. We would head up towards Chow Kit entering the wet market, through into the dry part, exiting on the other side. We then walk back along the small lanes of Lorong Haji Taib - used to be a notorious area in the 90s. Then return towards Masjid India passing Maju Junction and Pertama Complex, enjoying some drinks along the way. Simple!

550 snaps later, I was on my way to join Anita for lunch at Pavilion. It was a real fruitful morning. The lights were amazing. Ripi and Robin with their Olympus while Azul and I stuck to our Fuji. Robin was busy recording videos, Ripi with his waist-level shooting technique, while Azul showing us all the great spots for street shots. We had to work fast though, as by 11 am, the lights were already too harsh, losing its yellow-orange shimmer, while it was getting too warm as well.

I brought along the X-Pro3 and the GFX 50R in my sling bag. I attached my 16-55 mm zoom on the X-Pro and the 50 mm pancake on the GFX. Manageable weight-wise. Easy to manoeuvre and I must admit, the zoom was the main clincher, making composing on the go that much easier.

We called it a day just before noon as Azul had to travel to Penang later that afternoon. Ripi had other chores as well to run while Robin would be flying back to Kuching the next day for Chinese New Year. As for me, I took the Monorel from Medan Tuanku to Bukit Bintang, where Anita was waiting for my ride home ...

The snaps from this entry were taken using either the Fujifilm GFX 50R medium format camera or the X-Pro3
