Night Shooting at Petaling Street
There had never been an ideal time to shoot at Petaling Street. The place was still closed in the morning apart from a small stretch during weekends called Pasar Karat - where the morning market was held. It can get too crowded at noon to early evening during the week, as the tourist came in. I have never been comfortable shooting there alone. Too many suspicious stares. Plus the vendors being mainly foreigners, it was hardly much of a spectacle.
So, it would be best to venture there in a group, which was what we did last weekend after shooting at Pintasan Saloma. We reached there at around 9 pm after a quick dinner at Al-Baik. In the evening, the weather was pleasant, and the crowd was already thin.
We had plenty of opportunities, with the vendors busy clearing up for the evening. My set-up that evening was the X-Pro3 with XF 56mm f1.2 prime lens. I shot in jpg with classic negative emulsion. It was a blast.
The emulation captured the subdued atmosphere at Chinatown. Even when I was opening the files in Lightroom, I could not stop shaking my head at how great the captures were. If I realised how good the lights were, I would have snapped more photos. I got close to a hundred snap, and plenty of them were keepers.
The photos in this entry were taken using the Fujifilm X-Pro3, with the XF 56mm f1.2 lens. I also applied the on-camera “Classic Negative” emulsion.
