Characters of Chow Kit

I found something rather peculiar on my last visit to Chow Kit. The vendors were mostly local. A few years back, I was stunned at the number of Indonesian and Bangladeshis operating the stores there. It seemed that things have changed. And I found the experience photographing the market more pleasant than the last.

The wet market was almost exclusively local. The dry part had plenty of foreign workers doing the selling. But much less than before. Interacting with the sellers were more interesting. They were friendlier and does not mind having their photos taken if you ask them politely.

Some of them even offered their fruits and kueh for me to sample - which I duly obliged as it was rude to say no. The situation was different in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Masjid India however. There, the Indonesians and the Bangladeshis ruled the area ... I’ll stick to Chow Kit!
