Walkways around Jalan TAR

In a city such as Kuala Lumpur, where the public transport left plenty to be desired, a network or walkways may ease the traffic burden. Bangkok implemented it well, supplementing their mass transit system where the same bridge being built for the train can use a platform for the pedestrian to walk between buildings and malls.

To a certain extent, we had a few of those already with the one linking Pavilion and KLCC being amongst the first. Since then, we had the one connecting Pasar Seni station and the KTM Hub, as well as the recently opened set of bridges linking Mid Valley and Abdullah Hukum LRT station. These are important initiatives which we should encourage the Government to implement.

Around Medan Tuanku, there is an underused set of bridges over the busy intersections between Chow Kit and Maju Junction. It also forms a link to the Monorel station there which I found useful, especially when it was hot or raining outside. I observed all this during my recent walk and how nice it would be if the link from the Quill City Mall nearby was extended all the way towards Suri KLCC and across to Masjid India and Sogo for that matter. I am sure there would be takers ...

As it stood, the degree of underutilisation was perfectly summarised by the number of homeless people occupying the benches and the sharp stink of urine whiffing through the air.

The platforms also formed an excellent vantage point for photography, although I was occupied with other things when we were passing by there during the recent walk. Something to think about for the future as Malaysia wanting to become a developed nation and KL being an international destination.
