Aidilfitri That Was
Aidilfitri this year was definitely not the same as before. More subdued would be an understatement. But in a sense, things were more straightforward. Anita, for sure, felt that it was less taxing. She used to have sleepless nights preparing food for the open house and visitors. There were none of that this year.
We spent the Raya weekend in Gombak and visited my Mum at Julia’s place on the day of Aidilfitri. I spent the morning at home rather than at the mosque as the prayers were not held openly in the mosques this year. I still overate, though.
Come the evening, things were pretty much back to normal except for the amount of food that was left. Anita made her soto, and for the couple of days of Raya, that was almost literally what I ate.
The boys, on the other hand, preferred to return to the apartment but since it would be Anita’s Mum’s birthday on the third day of Raya, we decided to stay until then, had a family lunch before returning to Bangsar.
It was definitely different. Instagram and Facebook were still full of photos of friends in new attire. Some had been stuck in KL, not able to return to their parents. In a sense, I must say that we were both fortunate as our parents are all in Lembah Kelang. No travel restrictions there. On to the next Raya ... and the hair was something else ...
