Seloka @ Tangsi

Despite my first time being at the venue, there was a sense of familiarity to it all. And then it struck me. There were many events in town catering for the millennial generation which congregated youth from all races to gather. Going back 15 years ago, those were rare.

Attending these events reminded me of how harmonious my father’s generation was. He had more Chinese and Indian friends than I did and celebrating CNY, Xmas and Deepavali was a common thing. And his friends would return the favour during Hari Raya. Nothing more glaring when attending weddings attended only by Malays which I had been before.

Here, everybody seemed to be having fun. And Rumah Tangsi hosted an event called Seloka, and people from all walks of life attended. It was the first Seloka event I attended, I was more familiar with the concept of Riuh, so this was something new. Indeed, it was still a concept being developed. But they utilised Rumah Tangsi very well.

The central atrium formed the hub of the event while one of the annexe had the food section. It still needed some thinking through as it was not the most comfortable of place to chill. The shopping area was nice though, fully air-conditioned, although cramped at places since access into the rooms were limited. It was a mansion, after all.

I quite enjoyed the event with Anita, of course doing some shopping. Everything could be bought using bank transfers, so you don’t really have to bring plenty of cash to go there. By the time we were done, the place was pretty crowded. I look forward to many more such events in the future, and I spotted a few empty rooms, offer space for future expansion.
