An old mansion. Sunny Sunday afternoon. The contrast of the blue sky and yellow walls. It could not be more perfect! The setting was the newly renovated Loke Chow Kit Mansion on Jalan Tangsi. Used to be the home of the Kapitan. Now an ultra-chic event venue smack in the middle of town. Renamed Rumah Tangsi.

I experienced my first visit there a couple of weekends back - when I attended the fair, Seloka @ Tangsi - and I was mightily impressed with the renovation work. The interior was modern, completely air-conditioned and sheltered from the elements, while the outside maintains its old-world charm.

The main 2-storey building forms the hub with a central atrium flanked by a couple of annexes. There was limited parking outside - we got there by Grab. Only half of the space was being used for the Seloka event, and there were still plenty of areas being worked at. Once fully opened, this place is going to be great. For instance, the eating area remains at the open courtyard which, while beautiful and cosy, had pebbled floors and was open to the sun and rain. I am sure one of the annexe will be turned into a cafe, as this would bring in more customers to hang out. I would go there for the coffee alone ...

Public transportation remains an issue. It was not served by any mass transit, and I do not think it was part of the main bus route. As I mentioned, parking was a pain - they had a limited number of slots by the entrance and the roadway leading to the place was small.

I look forward to more events at this venue. And I hope that they have a solution to the access issues. Will definitely give it more visits in the future.
