Afternoon Scones at David Brown's
Nestled on top of Strawberry Hill, a peak above the Upper Station is a colonial mentioned previously owned by a British landowner in Penang. It has since been converted into a restaurant named after its original owner, David Brown’s Restaurant and Tea Terrace. An English name, for a very English setting. Surrounded by lush greenery with a view of Georgetown to die for, it is now a setting for tea parties and romantic dinners.
And oh boy, was the place gorgeous. Obviously, we settled for a very English offering, afternoon tea and scones. Anita and Idlan enjoyed the scones the most. Irfan ordered some pasta while I had some sandwiches and fruit punch. It was not long before my trigger finger got itchy, and the camera came out. Such a gorgeous garden and lovely cool clime. The terraced garden also had seats in the surrounding shaded area, place where you could just willow away in your thoughts. And the food was not half bad either. The scones and double cream were authentic. And my sandwiches were above par.
From the menu, they offered dinner set for those on dates with tables set in the open space. I was sure the lights from the city would make for a beautiful backdrop. I have seen pictures of wedding receptions being held there. Too small for a traditional wedding, maybe just for family members.
If only the place were turned into a bed and breakfast setting? We would definitely be staying there. Something similar to the Smokehouse in Fraser’s Hill, but more accessible with a better internet connection ...
Inside the house, there was a small mock living area in front of a fireplace. Cosy and Instagram-worthy most definitely. Beautiful flowers and water feature just completed the whole picturesque scene. Even my medium format could not do justice to how quaint the entire venue was. A definite must stop should you be in Penang Hill ...
