Day Trip to Fraser's Hill
Having an extra day on my break does not happen often. Since my Mum cancelled her stay with my Aunt, she had a day to spare at our place. We decided to drive her up to Fraser’s Hill. My God did she enjoy it.
It was the first time she ever been there. She was worried that the place would be similarly crowded to Cameron Highlands or Genting. Initially, she was reluctant. The winding hour-long drive up the hill did not comfort her, but her mood changed as soon as we reached the town. It was cool and calm. And she loved it.
After a brief toilet stop in town, we drove straight for an early lunch. We then discovered a new teahouse perched by the side of the hill, Aida Daniya Restaurant. More about that later. After some food and a stroll into its garden - my Mum bought a few flowers and strawberry pots - we drove around the hills looking at the old bungalows.
With the shaded driveways and occasional mist, it was a definite change of scenery to the hot KL and crowded Penang. We then went to Allan’s Water and another garden nearby, before heading back into town for prayers.
After sitting down in town with some ice cream, it was time for scones at Ye Olde Smokehouse. It has been close to four years since we last came here. And the place retained its charm and appears to be greener than we last been. Tea, scones and crumbles, and it was time to drive back into civilisation.
Plenty has changed positively. Hey now have 4G signal at the ready - we were struggling with EDGE back in 2016. The trails had been made up, and the entrances were clearly marked. We might come back one day just for the walk.
It was just after 4 pm when we left Smokehouse, to start our descend. Luckily, the traffic was kind. We made it back in KL well before dinner.
