Masjid India

In his own space

In his own space

Masjid India had recently undergone quite a transformation. The shops around Jalan Melayu had been demolished, and the space was opened as a pedestrian walkway towards the entrance to Masjid India. The roads could only be used by cars on a single file - on a one-way system. This made the area more pleasant for pedestrians in general.

The area around Jalan Bonus has also been upgraded. The pathways were paved, and the sidewalks had been extended, including the road in front of Malayan and Selangor Mansions. But the shops and its vendors remained the same.

It was like mini Bombay here. Many shops selling saree and jewellery, with sidewalk stalls doing henna and repairing shoes. Not to mention vendors selling refreshing drinks in this hot weather - the most popular being mango drinks, pumped up with glucose of course! The roadside lined with bazaars was getting packed as we were approaching noon, Imagine how it would be like on Saturdays when the area hosted a night market. It would have been a nightmare then!

This led me to Semua House - which remained essential to this area but had certainly seen better days. Even the biryani shop at its entrance was closed. Signs of the time ... I was too tired to venture into Campbell. Instead, I accompanied Ripi back towards Medan Tuanku, where I caught the Monorel to Bukit Bintang.
