Stop at OpenHouse

We went to OpenHouse on a few occasions before the pandemic. Recently, we learned that the restaurant was listed on the KL Michelin List. So, we stopped by to see if they had anything new on offer.

We were early, so the place was empty. We took our time going through the menu item. There were a few we recognised from before, plus a few new additions. There was also a selection endorsed by Tourism Malaysia - a nice one actually. But we were not too hungry and decided to give that a miss. We went ala carte instead.

The place retains the ambiance it had from before but as soon as we were approached by the waiters, there were some red flags. I just realised that he was not Malaysian and struggled to explained what the items were. Imagine if I was a foreigner? I won’t be too sure the kind of explanation he would come up with! That’s a major failure! Before this, the staffs were all Malaysian - Malay, Chinese and Indian. Not from Nepal or India!

This reflected badly on our current state, and it really put me off! Despite spending RM200 per head, I just could not enjoy the visit. Was the food good? I could get a better meal at a stall in Pantai Dalam, that’s for sure. When you go to such restaurants, your expectations are different. Maybe it just goes to show that Malaysia is not yet ready to have a Malay restaurant with Michelin star. Just too many mis-steps, it was just unforgivable.

Would I recommend it? I used to. But certainly not at the moment. And this would reflect badly on the rest of the outlets listed on the Michelin list ... This is a Malaysian restaurant. You can do better ...
